The bald gene

In my biology classes, baldness and maleness were linked. Both traits
appeared on the same chromosome. Not to say that all men will be bald -
your curly self for example - nor that all baldness is genetic, only
that genetic baldness will appear in the males.
To apply this back to pumpkins, then, is there a big-hunk gene that may
be linked to perhaps the peachy-cream color of Mr Pete Glasier's HMB
entry last year?
