I think, for those of us where spring is very cool
the challenge is to keep them warm. Those little
plants can sit there for a month and do nothing, if
they are subjected to cool days and cold nights.

Thanks for the genetics discussion, some interesting ponderings.



I am getting excited about this year's season, and am in the planning
stages for how I am going to plant, etc.



I have a question some of you might be able to help me with. Ok, I am
planning on taking something to an October weigh off, but also want to
grow something for our local fair. It is a small fair, and giant
pumpkins are not really much of an attraction. The largest last year
was 255#. I was thinking I would like to take as large a fruit as I
can, but the date of the fair is mid August. This means a shortened
growing season for the pumpkin I take there unless I plant it early.



Any thoughts about this?



What seems to be the best amount of time for maximum growth? How much
time should we allow prior to pollination? So, say we normally
germinate the first of may and pollinate the first of July (2 months),
we have basically 3 months of growth for an October weigh off. Is this
correct? If so, would I have a chance of success if I got one
germinated in mid March, pollinated mid May and harvested mid August.



Just trying to get some opinions. Thanks!
