Re: World Class Giant Pumpkin 3

Okay Beth here it goes.
I grow in a Christmas tree stlye, with no vines behind the stump. My first
couple of secondaries I let grow to 10- 12 ft long and then as the main
grows the secondaries get progressively smaller . At the end of the main I
let my secondaries get to approx 2 ft in length and then I stop all growth
by July 20th. I let my main grow 25 feet in length but I only have approx 50
sq ft of plant in front of the pumpkin. Doing this allows my leaves to be
extra large, most are 36 inches across with some as big as 39 inches across.
I feel the plant in front of the pumpkin contributes little to fruit growth
so I keep the area to a minimum. After I have stopped all growth the plant
looks like a perfectly shaped christmas tree. I plant the seedling at either
end of the garden and let them grow towards each other this is why the
secondary vines get shorter as they get further out. My organic level in the
soil is 20 percent and pay particular attention to my calcium/magnesium
ratio. I apply gypsium evry spring and fall along with 6 yards of manure for
800 sq ft. I also added another 8 yards of potting soil this winter. I hope
this helps and if you have anymore questions feel free to do so. Best of
luck in 2003
