Son of Genetic ramblings
Gus,
IF green is indeed recessive ...
You have a blossom aboard a plant grown from say a seed from a green
punkin. All green genes, right? [If orange is dominant, then any orange
genes will overcome the greens.]
The blossom ripens and opens, and you pounce, pollinating her firmly
with a male from, say, the same plant or from another plant grown from a
seed from a green AG.
She grows to motherhood and, after the weighoff where she is
disqualified for her greenity, you perform the caesarean and remove the
seeds, dry them, and send them to Long Island Glenn who - next year -
can plant them with the assurance that they will either 1. grow up
green, OR 2. disprove the green recession theory. [Or since you also
like green, keep a handful for yourself, and you two can share the noble
prize.]
And the world of AG growers will have learned something else worthwhile.
I love this stuff.
