Re: Return to Genetic ramblings

    Hi All
Heard Squash talk and wanted to join in !!! Glenn commented that his and Bob
Troys Squash turned Orange later on in the year after the weigh offs. Yes I
believe Bobs did and My 703* turned Brown on the upper surfaced where the
Chlorophyll died and the Orange color was clearly coming through. it was said
by Cliff I believe that I tried to grow SQUMPKIN/SQUASH this year and ended
up with Dark Red pumpkins yes this is true but I believe it not only to be a
genetic thing but also sitting out in the sun for two months before the weigh
offs. I think if you set out any Atlantic giant in the Southern California
sun that long they would turn orange !! Just an idea !!
OH the 530 Smith weighed two months after being separated from the plant
and sitting in the sun taped out to 557 weighed 530 and had a RED skin BUT
under the hard as stone skin was over one inch of DARK GREEN hard as a ROCK
flesh followed by a hard cream color Go figure just like the 703* but of " NO
" genetic similarity Kind of makes you think "will we ever figure these
things out"
Take care all just wanted to add my two cents !!!!
