Re: Question on PPM (Parts Per Million)


Hi Bob.  the conversions are based on 2 million pounds per acre, which
means that for most of the elements you use 2 as the conversion factor. 
there are a couple exceptions (P and K).  there is also the problem of
depth.  2 million pounds is based on a 6.5 to 7 inch plowing depth
(traditionally used), but with deep till (around 10 inches) i think the
conversion is somewhere around 3.  this is all well and good for corn
farmers, but for pumpkin growers, i like to see ppm's directly from the
lab.  it gives us a better set of numbers to work with, regardless of
depth.

anyway, if you (or anyone else) would like to email (farm@eznet.net) me
your soil test, i will add it to my file (now over 250 samples), and send
you a copy of the update for you to compare with other growers.
