Seeds.....Harold Baird..

Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking on seeds lately (and I'm
thoroughly confused now) and thought I might offer this to the group.

I meet a great guy and grower last year at the Ottawa weigh-off - Harold
Baird. I'm not really sure how long he's been growing but the last few
years he has been doing pretty good. He had a 774 last year he weighed
at Ottawa - and he has also had a few other nice pumpkins. A 768# in 95
- that was weighed at the Carp Fair Auction/Fund-raiser.

I first meet Harold at Al Eaton's the night Al loaded up his 3 monster
pumpkins of last year. (The 941, 805.5, and "Sharon's" 739) - (WOW -
what an experience! - Thank the Lord the backhoe showed up - better late
then never) The following day Al and I ran out to Harold's and helped
and watched him load his 774. (Harold has a invention similar to those
being used to lift pumpkins with only a tractor or fork lift..anyway) I
had a great time...another good look at another pumpkin patch besides my
own and Al's....some great experience really - but in talking with
Harold - ironicaly - it seems he hasn't really had a big demand for his
seeds - I guess his hasn't really pushed them or something...

So, basically I thought if anyone thought they might like to try some of
Harold's potentially great seeds - I could pass along his address if you
Emailed me about it....Unfortunately Harold isn't on the net..

I previously mentioned Harold sent me some seeds for some new growers in
the Gainesville Florida area....I'm hoping to learn of some good things
from these seeds and growers...

Here is a listing of Harold Biard's seeds...they really have some good
crosses....so you may consider trying them if you get the chance....

Also, one last thing.. Harold used the Orr 887 last year and had some
great luck...not only did he have the 774 from this plant - he had 3
other fruit on the same plant and the total weight of the 4
pumpkins???????? 2,715 #'s !!!! Wow..is that amazing? Harold tells me
there will be a small article about this in OSLG's next newsletter.
(I can't "weight" Gus!)

Anyway - check out these seeds..

603 - 887 F by 975 M (Zehr)
774 - 887 F by 768 M (Baird)
652 - 887 F by 968 M (Zehr)
680 - 791 F (MacDonald) by 990 (M) (Bax)

I'd happy to pass Harold's address along - just write me back - These
seeds look to have definate potential to me ...

Good Luck,

Tim..
