dreaded vine borer

Hi all,
I just had an idea about a possible way to control vine borers.
Through the years they have been by nemesis in my gourd and pumpkin
gardens. But what if beside the plants that I want to grow I planted some
extra expendable seeds such as regular gourds or regular pumkins or squash
and then treated by Giant pumpkins with all the chemicals, seven, roetone,
etc but left the expendable plants to the vine borer wasps to lay eggs at
will, and then at the end of their egg laying season just destroy the
expendable plants. Would this help keep the borer wasps away from Giant
pumpkins or would they be still attracted to the larger plant even though
it is hazardous to their health? Is this idea valid or is it just wishful
thinking?
any advice appreciated
John
