I am planning to build mini-green houses for my pumpkins this year. I
plan to a 4'x4' square out of 1"x3" lumber and use fiberglass rods to
flex a canope over my plants. I live on the Cumberland Plateau in East
Tennessee and we have some possible late frosts in early May. Last year
I lost a couple of plants because of this. I also want to use this
method along with Sevin to prevent cucumber beetles. Do you think I'm
wasting my time on these structures?

Check my info on Direct Start Method on Dan’s Pumpkin Page. Remember, small
green houses warm up the soil and plant during the day but provide little
protection from frost. Do not use granular fertilizer in the enclosure you
will cook the plant. You must put blankets over the green house at night.
Enclosures can let you plant 5 weeks before the last frost.
