Joe: i've been on this list for some time now ! i think i was around the
9 th or 10 th person to sighn on to it? this is my work E-mail address
and also i've been laying low! not much pumpkin growin goin on in the
winter! unless you're on of our Assie or NZ friends!
Joe what do you need to know About the borers? (Melittia Cucurbitae)
besides them being nasty? I battle with the little nasties every year,"
it's a war" just got to keep em in check!! lots of things you can try
for em! some people plant a trap crop. if you are going to plant a trap
crop to try to lure em away? do not plant Butternut squash, as some do!
Butternut Squash has some resistance to The Squash Vine Borer. so
they'll most likely head for the pumpkins, try Hubbard squash. and let
the Borers move right into them, just remember to destroy the vines
before the borers have time to enter the soil to pupate and over
winter! i burn all my vines!
Good luck and good growin!! springs a comin!!
