Elizabeth,
I'm in Richmond, VA. El Nino sends these nice warm rains through Richmond.
Our temperatures have been high 20's to high 40's here during February. It is
normally teens to 30's in February. I am thrilled!
Cats are stealth rodent hunters. My wife is allergic to them. Our Jack
Russell Terrier was a rodent dog. She'd dig up half my backyard to get to a
vole or chipmunk. In the 5 years that she tolerated our presence, she caught
6 squirrels. She killed 3 and let 3 go. At least those are the ones that I
witnessed. I gave one of her puppies to my college room mates mother who is
in turn going to give us a puppy this year. "The Digger" as we called her was
chasing a squirrel across the street when a school bus cut her in half. She
did not know what hit her and she did not suffer. She died "in the hunt!"
Better to go in the heat of passion than in some sick bed?
Yes, she dug in my garden. When she did all I had to say was, "squirrel, over
there!"
She'd run off in pursuit of an imaginary squirrel.
