Pumpkins Listers,
I have a few questions regarding giant pumpkin growing.
I am wondering what the benefits are to burying the growing tip of the
primary vine in late summer. Does this simply stop the vine from growing
longer or does it cause the vine to grow another set of roots 20-30 feet
out allowing for greater growth potential or is it something entirely
different?
Secondly, has anyone any experience with or has anyone seen or heard
of any research showing the effects of using City water supplies verses
rain/well water to irrigate the pumpkin patch. The municipality were I
live
( and I guess most if not all US cities) add chlorine to the water supply
which of course kills many micro organisms that may be required or
beneficial for/to soil fertility.
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Greg Schraiber

Greg. Grower's that pinch the tips off of there vines will bury them to
conserve water. Pinching will stop them from growing. Pinching and pruning
is something you'll be doing all summer long. I use well water!!
