RE: Starting early

I have started my plants the first week in late May or early June the
last two years as well. I have 5 or 6 plants I will be starting around
this time this year. I am starting one plant in mid March mainly as an
experiment. I want to see if an earlier start (and subsequently lower
air temperatures ) will result in a larger pumpkin.

I know it will never make it to an 'official' weigh-off. I am not
concerned about this. Not having it weighed at GPC or WPC-approved
weigh-off site does not invalidate it's existence or the effort. I
compete mainly against my previous year's results. If I see improvement,
I consider myself a winner.
