hello everyone,
just for informational purposes my main roots last year stayed about 8
inches under the top of the soil. this is about how far down i tilled
one of them i dug up was twenty something feet long before i gave up
on finding exactly how long it was as it still was nearly 3/8" in
diameter. so i don't see any problem with them growing down into a
hole provided you have the right nutrients in the hole to attract the
root system. i believe the roots know what is good to eat and they
search out the right stuff. you can see this when you plant near
compost piles. thus the compost feeding method. maybe someone should
try the compost hole instead of pile. however you still need to get
the air into the center to keep the compost alive. so i don't know all
about compost but maybe someone else can answer whether or not this
would work? just some microbes for thought!
