Beth,
It sure sounds like a good idea, but I haven't heard of anyone who tried it
specifically with vine borers. The principle is sound however. Pardon the
pun!!. I've seen sucessful results of different sound emissions to repel
all sorts of animals.....deer, rabbits, mice, gophers, raccoons, and even
blackbirds and mosquitos. One company I know of specifically that
probably has the most effective units available has an ususual, and
somewhat cruel way of making their repelling noises.......Please note this
not for the light hearted!....
Unfortunately they actually bring live animals of the species they are
trying to repel into the lab and torture them excruciatingly and record the
animals throws of agonony. With sophisticated electronic sound equipment
they come up with the best combination of hollars and screams and actually
have players that play these noises. I know it a pretty cruel concept,
but I've heard numberous reports that these devices are especially
effective.
I guess my point is, that I don't doubt the fact that sound emmisions can
be effective in many ways to control pests. I would be curious to hear
the results if someone tried one of these insect repellers on vine
borers!!!
Rick
