Hi all. I'm not personally a grower myself, but my family has been growing & selling pumpkins on our small farm in Suamico, WI (10 miles north of Green Bay) for over 20 years. We currently grow about 5 acres of pumpkins along with a few acres of squash, indian corn & gourds. My parents sell everything from their front yard, which is always dressed up in the fall spirit. I'm just doing some investigating for my father, Ray Gronski, who has become (you got it) obsessed with growing giant pumpkins. In 1997 he grew the knew state record giant of 867#'s. He was disqualified in the weigh off's because it had a small rotten spot that went through the shell. He was pretty upset & even offered to let them cut it open to prove he hadn't tamperred with it, but the officials were jerks & refused. He knows it was the biggest & he says that's all that matters, but I know it still bothered him. He did get a lot of recognition in the local news and paper, which was real exciting for him. He keeps in tight contact with some of the local WI growers & Howard Dill who he visited on a trip out east a few years back. I'm pushing him to get a computer, so maybe you'll hear from him soon. Until then, I guess I'll be his eyes and ears. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@mallorn.com with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
