Re: give and take

Well I have been off for a week finishing up the irrigation system to feed
those big babies come summer, and I for one believe this grower list is very
worth while.  I have been growing for this my fifth year, so no, I don't learn
much, but it does create a link between growers all over the world who would
normally be isolated to their own regions.  It also provides an excellent
opportunity for new growers to get started.  The Winter dulldrums are upon us,
so lets keep up talk about pumpkins, be it pumpkin boat races, theories on how
to increase shell thinkness, or just how deep to file the edge of those seeds.
Junk mail doesn't exist amongst friends, which I believe all true pumpkin
growers to be, at least to me.

Anyway, thats my two cents worth, now back to the patch.  For those christmas
tree style growers, in which direction do you let the main vine run, and why?
I have talked to a few very reputable growers, Joel, Jack and Sherrie, and
others, and there doesn't seem to be much of a pattern as to the vines
direction.  

As for an Oregon update, Sites 1 through 6 all have heated/ prefertilized
outlets now.  They are manured, limed, and marked.  Barring the arrival of a
#567.5, #1006, or an #827, this is the seed to site list:

Site #6:  #792 Holland
I will wait until next year to see how the 97 seed stocks pan out,  unproven
seed is too risky, and with one person, and only 6 sites, why take a chance.
I have grown 11 over 500 pounds, 5 of which were over 600, but have fallen
short of the 700 club.  It will not happen again.
