Danny:
Where do you live? Are you in FL? Knowing your geographic location or county
and state would help the other folks on the net answer your questions better.
I live in FL and can grow virtually year 'round, but our Spring weather has
been awful, so I'm glad I haven't planted yet.
Today is warm, already 75 degrees at 8 AM. High winds are gusting, and this
would wreak havoc on seedlings. Heavy rain will be with us off and on this
week, so I have decided to germinate my seeds this week for planting into
containers, not in the ground.
Working the soil as soon as you can if you live in a southern area that has
had frost is a good idea. Let your Spring weather stabilize and check in with
your ag office to be sure. Otherwise, it would be smart to invest in cloches
in the event you had ugly weather to pop up. Winter has a way of giving up
slowly, and even in FL, we can have a killing frost in late March. Beware and
be prepared.
