RE: Listowner Reminder

All I know is that "normal" for the past week or so - yeah, ever since
the serious police struck - suddenly has become pretty ho-hum. I used
to really look forward to the pumpkin mail. The shared information was
awesome, but the banter and high spirits were what made this list
magical. This week I was out for a day and came back to a grand total
of 7 pumpkin messages. Excuse me, 7!!!!???? Where is everybody??
Let's not be so paranoid!

I think Duncan recently gave us some statistics about total subscribers
and the percentage of those who contributed; he sounded really proud of
it all. I imagine if he looked at the # of contributors since the
attack, the percentage would be a lot less impressive.

I use the archives all the time, though I may also be guilty of asking a
question or two without adequate prior research - I've never minded
someone saying, "We discussed that at length last spring, go check it
out." But if we have to check every other resource first before we
dare bother the listers, then this list will wither considerably. And
if we must measure every word for worthiness, the camaraderie will
suffer and so will the exchange of information. Who can say what is or
is not worthwhile to someone else - if anyone out there gains from it,
then it is a good thing in my book. An off-the-cuff remark by one
person may send another into some line of inquiry that will really be
productive for us all.

I sincerely hope we have not had the list frightened into something that
is less valuable than it used to be.

(Thanks. I feel a lot better now.)

Beth
