   The light cycle is the cycle in which the plant takes the energy from the
sun to make ATP which is the energy unit used by a plant to make sugars during
the dark cycle.  The dark cycle uses the ATP to make sugars, that is the only
energy needed to make the sugars so the cycle can go to completion without
light, That is were it gets the name.  It also happens more at night when
temperatures are cooler.
   I hope this helps.  I can go into more detail if needed, but this is the
basics of the process.
