   Water is essential for the movement of all plant materials.  It is mostly
done by concentration gradients.(Osmosis and reverse Osmosis which uses
energy)
  Water is also essential for fruit growth.  The growth of fruit is due to two
things, 1 cell devision and 2 cell growth.  A cell cannot grow without water
to fill its walls.
   The water is pumped into the fruit to make it grow.
