Speaking of animals in the pumpkin patch, I borrowed some pigs from my dad's hog
barn and buried them under the base of my pumpkins in '97. I did this for three
plants, they produced my 581.5 lb. pumpkin, 636 lb. squash, and 67 lb. Jumpin
Jack (field pumpkin). I have also incorporated raccoons, possum, rabbit,
walleye, white bass, and catfish portions. The fish drew animals which dug up
the base of the plant they were under. I am always looking for more organic
matter for the patch.
