I think if you watch real close next spring you'll see the stem with seed
to one side come out first or at the same time. If the seed was being push
straight up, it would be in a vertical position above the stem before it
comes out of the ground. Most of what I'm talking about happens under the
soil. If we were less impatient the first set of leaves would pry the seed
coat most of the way off. Plant strain developers use that seed coat
removal as a sign for determining seedling strength. The most important
thing is flat or point down placement. Roger
