Magnesium Levels

I was trying to determine how to raise the magnesium level in my garden by
100 PPM. I found some information that said 2 pounds of magnesium would raise
the magesium level of a one acre garden 1 PPM. Since my garden is .06 acres
(50 by 50 feet) this turned out to mean that I would need 12 pounds of
magnesium. At the feed store near me they sell magnesium oxide for gardens as
well as magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salts). I was told the magnesium oxide was
twice as strong as the epsom salts. On the magnesium oxide bag it said, " 54%
magnesium content." This meant I would need about twice as much magnesium
oxide to get 12 pounds of actual magnesium. So, to raise my 50 by 50 foot
garden 100 PPM in magnesium I would be needing 24 pounds of magnesium oxide.
Can anyone confirm these calculations for me or tell me that I am way out of
the ball park?
