Re: Oregon Update Replied

Actually the #720 was my #14 pick. But what the heck, for those interested
here is my reasoning behind my seed choices, but first to answer the new seed
question posed, if I had to choose from the seeds from 1999 my top three
would look like this...
#1 732 Black - A tough cross and probably a "sleeper". It was a #620 Black
crossed with the #935 Lloyd. Okay, the #620 Black is a sleeper. It has
snuck around producing some nice pumpkins, such as the #974 Mettler, and all
offspring have been heavy. Don had some luck with this seed, a really big
one, over 1000 pounds split on him. The #935, well lets see, 1092, 1131,
ect, ect.

#2 Okay a bit of self pride, the #850.5 Hester. It was an 801.5 Stelts
crossed with the 990 Bax. The 801 is carrying some great traits from the
567.5 mombert only with out the dill ring. The 990 Bax is famous as a male
pollinator, with the offspring being huge and weighing nicely.

#3 Gotta go with the 1009 Eaton. Genetically, what Al did was genious. A
sibbed 946.5 Geerts. It will either be a big hit or a big bust, nothing in
between. I got a feeling about it though, good seed.

Okay, I like for my choices..
#1 #935 Lloyd - Obviously two world records in a row is saying something, and
it produced my #743 which had only 50% of the stem attached all season due to
poor vine positioning at pollination.
#2 #801 Stelts - A hot seed right now. Did very well for most everyone in 99
including myself producing my #850.5. Although most offspring have been a
little light, the seed liked my soil and the 850 weighed 6.33% heavy. Also
produced the 900+ pound Patrick, 846 Calai, and others. This may not throw a
1000 pounder, but I feel it will be a consistant 700-900 pound producer.
#3 #946 Geerts - Tough to beat this one. Its draw back is there are a few
duds in the mix. Multiple 1000 pounders from this seed.
#4 #697 Ciliberto - Another 1000 pound producer. This seed rocks if you can
get a tall fruit to set. Lowriders tend to be a little light.
#5 #865 Mettler - A 946.5 Geerts crossed with the 567.5 Mombert. Ouch baby,
this one hurts me with the potential. Some monsters were out there from this
seed this last year that made it to a weigh off, and a few that didn't, but
this seed hasn't had its potential reached yet. It will be a 1000 pound
producer.
#6 #620 Black - This one has Boohyababy written all over it. Lincolns #974
barely cracked the surface of this one. The Mettler boy pushed it pretty
hard, but the 974 was a youngin. A 1000 pounder will come from this one too.
#7 #1009 Eaton - Like this one, kind of a wildcard, but what the heck, I
haven't tried one of Als seeds yet, and this one begs to be given a go.
#8 #850.5 Hester - Like I said above.
#9 #815 Checkon - 1200 pounds, need I say more. It may have split, but gotta
go with it.
#10 # 730 Stellpflug - Like this as a pollinator, offspring are heavy, Paul
Handy style.
#11 #888 Mombert - Mombert, nuf said.
#12 #914 Wier - Old school, helped in the Zehr World record. I think it will
do something special.
Theres my top 12 anyway, I can elaborate on them all more if needed, but this
should help.
