RE: vine borers
I have heard that wrapping nylon stockings around the vines will prevent the
little buggers from getting to the vines. Has anyone tried this?

I agree that nematodes are a good idea but, i think most will agree that
preventing them from entering the vine in the first place is much preferred
over
injecting the vines after they've already entered. the second that borer
enters
the vine it's already doing damage. what if you don't see it fora few days?
now he's munching away all happy. personally, i know i dont' want to
pollute
the environment, i dont' want to damage ground water, kill earthworms etc,
but i
also don't want to have all of my efforts ruined by some lousy moth and its'
offspring. so basically, what i'm saying is, you have legimate concerns,
and i
agree, but is there a method that will (a) not be harmful to the
environment,
and (b) keep those pesky borers at bay.? maybe there's not "1" answer, but
a
combination of products that will help us get what we want....just
brainstorming,
scott
