Re: Water Meter

Many nozzles will give you their performance specs (gpm @ a certain
pressure rating). If you know the pressure, you got the gpm.
Gpm being gallons per minute
Pressure being pounds per square inch.
Now you can figure out how mucha nozzle sprays; for instance a 15 foot
radius and you want 1" of water. By figuring out the volume of water
needed you can figure how long the nozzle should be spraying.
Math:
area of 15 foot radius spray = (pie) x radius squared= 101,736 inches
squared  (I kept in inches)
volume = area x height = 101,736 (1")= 101,736 inches cubed
now, 231 cubic inches equal gallon, so 101,736 inches cubed equals 440
gallons
So if your nozzle is rated a 5 gpm it will give you 300 gallons in one hour
 or 440 gallons in 88 minutes.

To get your 1" of water you can have the nozzle spray say for instance 4
days a week for 22 minutes a day.

Hope this helps!
