The organising for our Pumpkin Festival is all on track and everything is
booked and set for April 8th.
We will be taking the angle of being the second biggest pumpkin festival in
the world in terms of pumpkins etc. Our best stats to date are 101 pumpkins
two years ago. We are asking for 108 pumpkins this year to beat the record
of 107. which I understand was in Topsfield - is this correct????
Does anybody know of numbers of pumpkins at any Weigh - Off's anywhere
please. Who has the biggest pumpkin festival/Weigh - Off to date????
There are lots of female flowers in the patch now but no males. I trimmed a
lot of vines that were going in the wrong direction and buried the ends. All
plants doing well and being sprayed with 'Thrive - Fruit and Flower' liquid
feed every second or third day'.
The vines on the Armstrong look particularly thick and strong.
The Needham is really moving now and I had to bring the main vine around the
back to circumnavigate the patch to give the runners some space. The Needham
runners are really dark green and solid looking.
The Emmons has bright yellow runners and there are some cracks appearing at
the base of the stems in the plant crown.
The Kincaid was the first to have female flowers and the leaves are still
larger than the rest.
All are settling down to lots of vegetative growth, speed and starting to
flower.
The task for this weekend is to identify some of the runners that have
'mingled' and hang a label on them to identify them for pollination
purposes.
