Re: Seed Auctions
I think that the auctions are a good way to help raise money for the
groups we all belong too. If someone have the desire and financial means to
pay $300 for a seed then I say let them.
How many growers would part with a Stelts 801.5, or a Geerts 946.5? I
have a pretty extensive list and I know that those two seeds are out of my
reach in a trade so if I really wanted one then I would have to purchase
one.
Even if you have the best seed you may not grow the biggest pumpkin. Who
even knows if the Stelts is the best seed. I have looked at the AGGC alot
and I seed more seeds then not that have no known pumpkins grown from them.
We may be missing the killer seed that will grow the first 1500 pounder. I
like my cross and I am growing it this year. This year a lot of large
pumpkins came from good seeds but that were not grown widely because they
were not a larger pumpkin. Just because it is a hot seed does not mean it
is the best seed for your area or climate.
I am planting a Calai 846 and a Maston 570. May one or both pop a really
big one for me.
