Re: SEED AUCTION SORENESS

First of all, I'm not even a grower yet of AG pumpkins but through some
networking I have obtained some very wonderful seed crosses from many people
on this list and "I THANK YOU FOLKS VERY MUCH". I've even received some
seeds with the SAME PARENTAGE as ones being auctioned for the charity
auction.

Imagine that, how wonderful these doners are to give these seeds away for
free just to support a charity or to lend their encouraging comments and
insight to a new grower. Hopefully by reading and reading over again, I
will not fail my first year.

I showed some of my fellow railroaders at work these books and seeds and now
I have at least three other people lathered up about springtime coming and
planting a giant pumpkin seed. Isn't that what it's all about????

I''ve just been monitoring this list since sometime in October 2000 and if I
have been able to secure these seeds with just postage, then anyone else with
a little effort I'm sure could do the same. For god's sakes people, no-one
is forcing anyone to buy expensive seeds. All the people who are bidding on
these seeds probably have enough other good seeds that they might not even
plant the ones they buy at auction this year. C'mon, admit it. Agree with
the baseball card analogy, everyone wants a Mickey Mantle card, but some
might not ever look at it once they have it, same with the seeds, buyer might
not plant it.

Many of these bids are intended to be a tax deduction by the purchaser and
the way the checks are made out it is a wonderful idea. HEY, I have a
wonderful idea, next year, do it sometime in December so people can make out
the check before December 31 of the tax year and maybe even more money can be
raised. Great idea=huh. The doners of seeds hope that money is raised on
their seeds, that's the intent.

In this world they say you get what you pay for. In this auction you get
even more, you get a notable tax deduction and also free seeds, how can you
argue with a nice win/win situation like that.

Bob Mathews: Don't get discouraged. You've done a wonderful job with the
auction site and to all others who maintain sites,- "Rocky-Shelly-Mike" and
I'm sure there's others;- you people all deserve attaboys from everyone who
has interest in growing large pumpkins. While others are watching movies or
out to dinner, you're diligantly pecking away at your computer doing
something you love and to help others and create a fraternity or informed
growers.

OK. How bout getting back on genetics, fertilizers, water, tarps,
sun, shading, varmits, bugs, wilt, rot, pH, or my "NEW YORK GIANTS AND KERRY
COLLINS".

ps: Beth- didn't forget, will be in the mail soon.
