Following the discussion with great
intrest.....
But what do you mean by "proven" seeds
??
Are this the seeds coming from an officially
weighed pumpkin ??

Perhaps if you lost the attitude that everyone owes you thier best
seed you might be more successful at obtaining them. That said,I
appologize for being so direct.(You'll have to excuse me as I'm a bit
giddy right now watching the Giant game). I have recieved "the" seed from
quite a few growers and find your comments misleading and off target.
There's 10 times more great seeds out there just dieing to be proven. Why
not "prove" a great grower's other seed this year? Chances are you have a
friend for life...and access to the proven seeds. Now Im not saying
that a first time grower has to pay his dues on unproven seed (or am I?)
but you don't put a 17 year old with a day old license behind the
wheel of a

I have to put my dollars worth
in here on the seed auction thing. I will be a second year grower this
year and have gotten many "free" seeds from people on this list and
others. But only a few (very few),growers have sent me any of thier
proven seeds. Maybe some that were grown on the same plant,or some that
had the same genetics, but not the killer ones I and anyone else would
love to have. Try writing Dave Stelts and get a 801.5,or Mark S. to get
a 825.5,or Kirk Mombert and get a 567.5,and the list goes on and on. I
understand that the supply is low on the above mentioned seeds, partially
in part to all the seeds they sent to other growers. But how many of you
will send me a 567.5,or a 801.5,or any of the super proven seeds?? There
are people out there with a few of these seeds in thier collection, but
still they don't plant them! I try like crazy to get one and those that
have them want to trade you them for the balance of your seed
collection. I have made a few trades, and have gotten a few good proven
seeds in trade, but they for the most part are not the highly sought
after Lloyd,Mombert,Shymanski(ok,I got one 825.5 in a trade,thanks Jerry
R.), Ciliberto, etc, etc. Big time seeds. Most of you guys have been
collecting seeds for some time now,but us newer growers only chance to
get the previous top seeds is to buy it at auction, due inpart to all the
others that were given those seed free of charge years ago, continue to
set on them. I've heard about some of your extensive seed
collections, and wonder how in the world you could plant even a fraction
of the proven seeds you have?? I spent more money than probably anyone
on this list at the auctions and seed requests,(over $500!)yes I sent
money last year with my requests. Funny how everyone kept the
cash, except ONE,Gary Burke, and he sent me some of his good seed stock
and paid for postage! If everyone is worried about keeping the hobby
alive so much,give a newbie a chance,they are the future,if they stick
with it. Send them one of your 100 proven seeds, see what they can do
with it. The only hope I have of having proven seeds in my collection is
to participate in the auctions,or wait till the seeds I have gotten from
1999 and 2000 are proven, some are already, but that will happen only with
a select few seeds. So let's see how many replies I get on this request;
I am looking for seed from the following,935 Lloyd-567.5 Mombert-946.5
Geerts-801.5 Stelts. And I will plant them!
