RE: OVGPG seed auction
Well said Nic!
Being a new grower, Nic and Deby Welty have supplied me with seeds from some
16 fruit this year. My current library boasts seed from over 40 fruit from
a dozen different growers. I hope to receive more yet this year.
This group of people is more generous than I could have ever expected. I
sent out seed requests to people in the hope of getting this year's seeds.
If I had a specific request, I let them know. (For instance, I was looking
more for good Orange or Green color than size this year...and people tried
to supply me with that.) I did not expect 'proven' seeds, but I did get
some.
It seems to me that people spending $300 per seed have that kind of money to
support the organization. I don't have that right now, so I probably won't
participate in any auctions this year. When I have that extra cash, I'll
use it at an auction. I'd rather have people volunteer to support the
organization rather than the organization charging prohibitive dues!
I don't think any of us can say we don't have a seed that can potentially
produce a 1000 pounder if we just gave it a try. Out of my seeds, half of
them have at least one parent that has produced 1000# fruit. I am having a
hard time deciding which three seeds to grow this season. Hell, my goal
this year is a mere 600#. If anyone feels they don't have any 'good' seeds,
please e-mail me and I will be glad to share.

PS I would like to thank all the growers who have sent me seeds this year.
Also, thank you Tim Bailey for responding to my earlier request.
