Hello. I like to keep the plant around 1000 - 1200 square feet.  I also
believe if you have two primary vines coming off of the stump and each of
these vines have a pumpkin them, the pumpkins are actually being grown on
only 500-600 square feet of plant per pumpkin. I never believed this until
this following year with my stumpless plant.
