Everyone:
I'm considering some trips to the seashore to collect seaweed to add to my
compost pile, and I'm looking for any and all advice. I've done a quick
search of the archives and didn't find any detailed discussions of the usage
of actual seaweed as compost of making a fertilizer tea. I know from Don
Langevin's books that Craig Weir collects seaweed, and there is a funny
chapter in Pumpkins are Orange about seaweed, but that's all I know.
So I'm wondering do people add seaweed to their compost piles? Do you use it
as mulch? I build compost hills under my pumpkin piles, using the methods of
George Brooks, will seaweed make a significant contribution to the compost
hill?
What is the special thing about seaweed? Maybe just the fun of the drive to
beach during the early spring or the sunny winter day?
