Geo and Eathan ,

good comments, good observations.  I agree  with both at least it appears
that way......  seems like certain genetic strains do better with the heavy
pruning.  And yet you try that with others and its seems  to hinder them.
Seems that some plants are so aggressive that pruning causes  blow
outs.........so spreading the growth surge helps in those cases......  Yet
others are slow growing and the plants seem smaller than the root systems.

I wonder if cooler days provide root growth............and warmer days
plant growth.  It apprears the warm Cal climate produces fast plant growth
instead of root growth.  You also wonder if the extra day light  allows
plants to be smaller..................I don't know just
brainstorming............thoughts  observations,anybody?
