RE: ph meter

Craig,

My name is Melissa, and I'm an agronomist in Northern Indiana. To answer
your question about a pH meter. A good meter is really expensive, but to
get a soil sample done at a professional lab is not expensive at all. I
have gotten into a lot of GPS grid sampling for row crops in which I can
pull over a hundred samples out of one field. Then I send the samples to
A&L Great Lakes Labs, where they have one of those expensive accurate meters
and get pH readings as well as P & K levels, CEC, Organic matter, Ca to Mg
ratios etc, all for only $5.50 / sample. Of coarse, it is important to get
a representative sample from your patch. You will want to pull 8 -10 cores
from your patch and get the top 8" of soil in a profile. If you would like
more information about the lab and where to send samples let me know.
