After I sent my reply, I thought... "well that was making things just a little
too black and white in a gray world".
Still, I would like to make that point that environmental conditions do not
really 'override' the genetic make up a plant or animal, at least not at the
level we can manipulate. Adding more or less of something won't change my eye
color, but eating more chocolate makes me fat (fatter?) while it makes friends
of mine just happier. Certain genetic profiles 'allow' for a range of outcomes
based on variable environments. And it's a good thing too. I think we can all
agree that Chris's point are well taken. Finding the best combination of
conditions for our particular setup is all we are really trying to accomplish.
Sometimes I jump on things just a little too literally.
