Re: heavy to the charts & molding toy pumpkins

Alun, Mike, Chris,..., list:

The heaviness is measured by the ratio weight/volume.
As the volume of an AG pumpkin is not easy to measure, the
OTT measurements are used instead. However, these measures
aren't probably an infallible estimation to the volume of the
pumpkin, imho.

I don't know the causes of the heaviness, of course. I'm
talking only about the way the estimation of this heaviness is made.
I think the OTT measures do privilege the blocky shaped pumpkins
and more or less "spherical" ones (low ott?), against the barrel shaped
elongated pumpkins (high ott?). Please correct me if I'm wrong!
I know there are a great work of many growers, many years,
making the charts...

We can do this experiment, with clay (plastiline?): To mold a
little pumpkin! Do shape this toy pumpkin as blocky shaped, measure
the ott... Now, deform the same little clay pumpkin into an elongated
barrel shaped pumpkin, and measure the ott... Results? The weight is
is exactly the same... and the OTT?
