Fertilizer?

First, I would like to thank everyone who offered me free seeds, I was quite surprised by everyones generousity.  I am curious about fertilizing and if there are any particular regimes that people prefer?  I also must say that I am pleased to find people that are as obsessed with giant pumpkins as I am.  I am in the western mountains of Maine and am wondering if anyone else on the list is in a place with a similar weather pattern and growing season?  Thanks, Cheryl
