Re: Seeds, Help

Hi Sean,

Many growers are very generous with their seeds and will give them away if you ask. The best way to do this is write to them and send a self-addressed bubble mailer. Many regional growers groups sell or give away seeds with a membership. Dues are reasonable and you can get some very good seeds. P&P seeds and Dills seeds are of high quality and are well worth the money. My biggest pumpkin came from a seed I bought from P&P. However, I would avoid AG seeds from garden catalogs. I have some seeds that you can have from 450-550 pound pumpkins if you are interested.

I have a question about getting seeds for the Atlantic Giant.   I read on a previous web page that the best place to get seeds is from a seed exchange, also that ordering them from places like P & P seeds is not great thing because the seeds can be of poor quality.   Of course I read this after ordering $30 worth of seeds from P and P.   This will be my third year of trying to grow pumpkins, two years ago (my first) I managed to grow a 200 lb specimen.  Last year was a total failure zero, zilch, nada, nothing....I ordered seeds from Dills, which I though was reputable.   Of course I realize having zero luck last year probably had to do with inexperiece, but I couldn't even get the seeds to germinate last year.

I have nothing to exchange but gratitude and was wondering what the best method would be in begging for seeds?  Panhandleing? or Just a sign, "Will work for Seeds!"

Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Thanks, Sean       : )
