In my first effort at growing, I grew a 585 pound Est. pumpkin in 1998 with
no vine burying, no pruning, no pest control, and no shading. It was a huge
sprawling jungle of a plant. In the past few years I have incorporated
everything I have learned. Pumpkins are shaded, plants are artfully pruned,
watered and sprayed on a timely basis. The result, a personal best of a mere
627 pounds. Go figure.
