RE: what to do with clay soil

Chris,
To help break up my clay soil I use aprox. 5 lbs. of gypsum
per 100 square feet. Also add great quantities of compost,
well rotted steer manure and oragnic matter. Plant a cover crop
(I use winter rye) and till it in. I have not tried using sand
but some growers claim that it will help break up dense clay.
I would stay away from sawdust and wood chips as they take a
long time to break down.
Keep adding this stuff every year and your soil will improve.

George
