RE: The List

Well i have really only been here for about a year. maybe 18 months at the
outside. and i know that the list has helped me very much. i cant begin to
thank all those who have sent me seeds. and it is incredible how much info is
out there.
and i have had a bit of an experience with what it would be like if mallorn
was not there. my college had a mail server change over, and i was without my
pumpkin mail for a few weeks. so i am very greatful for the list and the
people it has put me in contact with

thanks all

craig

Subject: The List

Wow. Did you all realize there are now 357 of us who subscribe to the
Mallorn PUMPKINS list???!!! We've grown! I believe I subscribed in late
97. Thats more than 6 years that Chris Lindsey has provided my personal
lifeline to this crazy obsession.

Just out of curiosity I just went back to the first monthly listing, for
January, 1997. There are actually a few older posts from 93 and 94. But
amazingly, I see signatures for Paul McIntyre, George GBPUMPKIN Brooks,
Pumkinguy (we dont hear from him as much these days, but Wayne, we know you
are out there). I see Tony Hickman (we miss him), Joe Pukos, and Vickie
Brock (Brock, youve been impersonating your wife for a heckuva long time
why again did Diana/Vince get himself in so much hot water???). I see
Duncan, of course, and Tim Aker (Tim, you still here?), Chris Andersen,
Chris Wilbers! Bill Verchere. Hey. Mike Nepereny, talking about pumpkins
in the south... I wonder who that could be?? And where is Troy Naylor? Gus
Saunders. Hey you Canucks, how is Gus doing? Is Pkinbumkin Ethan Jervis?
This is like looking at an old yearbook or something!

I see posts with questions, posts with good information, posts musing about
possibilities, posts with, uh, slightly inappropriate content. I see
BICKERING! Ha ha. ROFLMAO. I even see one person trying to unsubscribe in
a post. All in all, I see people who love pumpkins reaching out in all the
normal human ways to try to connect to other people who love pumpkins. The
more things change, the more they stay the same.

Which brings us to Christopher Lindsey. Bless his heart. All this time,
all this information, all this pumpkinness. Mallorn has just been here,
like air. Gosh knows I would miss it if it disappeared. So I couldnt help
but notice recently on an archive page, that there is a fund drive in
progress. Check it out:

http://www.hort.net/funds/

There is no book, there is no newsletter that can come close to the list for
personalized information, moral support and encouragement. That's no slight
at all to Don or any of the newsletter folks who make great, and very
tangible contributions to the pumpkin community. But only the list is
interactive. Only the list can respond to what's happening in our patches
NOW. Only the list has a seven(plus)-year archive with just about any
subject you can imagine, searchable on demand:

http://www.hort.net/lists//pumpkins/search.cgi

Just thought you all might like to know. I havent noticed any posts here
on the fund drive.

Happy New Year!
Beth
