Top Proven Pumpkin Seeds On the Planet

This post is for all the serious students of pumpkin genetics
out there. A brand-new year - and a good time to do your
homework...

Last year growing 1,000 pound pumpkins became routine (except
for me and a few others.) 88 thousand-plus pounders tipped the
scales. Almost half of the 190 1,000 pounders ever grown
emerged last year - just to taunt me I suppose.

I need to put lottsa
more shit in my pat-cha....
So a much bigga
pumpkin does hat-cha...

Ok... no more poetry - this is serious stuff...

The five hottest seeds have produced over thirty percent of all
1,000+ pounders (61/190) - That would be the 723 Bobier, 845
Bobier, 846 Calai, 705 Stelts, 805 Pukos in that order. But
the real story is that there are now 91 proven seeds out there
and 19 of them have produced 3 or more thousand pounders.

All eight 1,300 plus pumpkins ever grown came from a different
seed stock. So don't fret if you don't have one of the five
seeds above.

Ten new white-hot seeds were proven this year by savvy growers.
The honor roll includes the following: (in no particular order)

1. 898 Knauss - 3 1,100+ - all heavy
2. 1016 Daletas - big and orange
3. 783 Daletas - official world record and a few more
4. 695 Handy - 3 big ones
5. 582 Hester - biggest offspring of all time
6. 842 Eaton - 3 1,000+ right out of the gate
7. 1236 Eaton - reverse cross of the 842
8. 735 Pukos - self a hot seed - get a hot seed
9. 1230 Daletas - same mother/pollinator as 1016 Daletas
10 1260 Weir - not widely grown but wow!

Did I say 805 Pukos? - well, there - I said it again.....

If you don't have one of these 91 proven seeds, there were some
really nice crosses made this year. The one I like the best is
the 1385 Daletas. This pumpkin was crossed with a 898 Knauss
plant that produced a 1180. If you only get a pumpkin that
hits the average of the two parent's weight (1,282.5) - well
then, that's not too bad....
