769 Balanowski

List,
Would someone remind me why we AG growers cherish pumpkins that weigh
heavy over the taped estimate rather than light. Izzit merely to avoid
our own disappointment at the scales, or is there another good reason
beside?
Since so much of the fun is in impressing the general public, I'd think
we would aim for pumpkins that are as large as possible for the weight
rather than trying to get them more compact. David and I and Matt
Praetzel stood by the pumpkin exhibit at the Harvest Fair 2 years ago
and watched fair-goer after fair-goer ohh and ahh over the runner-up,
which taped out larger than Matt's winning pumpkin.
Thanks if someone can enlighten me on this.
Kathie
