Re: cucumber beetles...

If I could add my two cents, don't give up on the cucumber beetles. I used to have them... now over the past 6 years it's pretty rare that I see one.

When you head out to the garden at 6:00am (you gotta do this if you're a giant pumpkin grower!) take a bucket of soapy water with you. Any beetles or other pests are given a swim. Knock them out! Wipe out their population, and the problems will go away with them.

There was a product out there that is common at home centers... "Triazicide", which I think has some of the chemicals mentioned by Steven Jepsen. This stuff really works! But I'd use it sparingly. I think I used it once and it really took care of my problems. Didn't see a CB for years after that. If you have a drastic situation, consider using it. If you occasionally see one, try the soapy water, and also be on the lookout for their eggs on the underside of leaves.

I'm not a Sevin fan. Sevin kills beneficial insects, bees & earthworms.

Admire (imidacloprid) twice a year keeps cb's under control. Those who
escape systemic treatment are best treated with Warrior (lambda-cyhalothrin)
or Capture (bifenthrin). Unfortunately, both are restricted use.

Does anyone know a good method of prevention? And if that fails, a good

treatment?

Hmm, this sounds very similar to a disease I have been fighting. This year
