Freezing Seeds………more info.

I dry the seeds as you normally would then I put them in a Zip Loc Freezer
bag and then put that in a second Zip-Loc. When I plant them, I take them
right from the freezer into the soil without defrosting first. As a test I
kept some out of the freezer and found better germination with the frozen
seeds. I believe freezing stimulates a genetic trigger that tricks the seed
into thinking it has wintered over. When it defrosts, the genetic trigger
improves germination rates and vigor. Some seeds (apple) must go through
this freezing or chilling process or they will not germinate at all. That
prevents the seeds from germinating during a warm fall and then dying. This
Spring I will be planting some AG-553-93-GB seeds from my freezer. I’ll let
everyone know how they do.
