I showed my husband George your chart, and he was very interested in
your timing of watering. He noticed you watered mainly at night. Do
you feel this is best. George used to always water at night, but
everybody tells him, that is bad, too cold, what is your opinion, I'd
 appreciated hearing from you.

 Thanks, Wendy

Your suppose to water in the afternoon for best results but I almost always
find it too windy. That causes some of the patch to get no water at all. In
the past I used drip irrigation but found that to cause the root system to
amass around the emitters instead of spreading out. Some say to water in the
morning but that will interfere with pollination. I can’t do that after the
pumpkin is set ether because I have other vegetables growing in the garden
that need pollination. So that leaves me with only one alliterative, water as
close to dawn as possible, "BEFORE" the flowers start to open, using a timer.
If all things were perfect I would always have calm afternoons and water
between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.. Hope that helps, it is one of the many
controversial topics in Pumpkin growing.
