Just after I harvested my pumpkins last year, I popped a root and placed it
carefully in a carton of concentrated food coloring... to absolutely no
visible effect.  I couldn't see the least bit of coloration  on the move
anywhere.

Please, someone try that radioactive tracer injection!   I want to know how
far fluids travel in a pumpkin plant (and in what direction).  It would
teach us all something about pruning.
