Dan: What is the temp inside your pile? Have you a compost, photo or
cooking thermometer that can measure the temp about a foot or more under
the pile's surface? What is the outdoor temp? Is there any carbon in the
pile, like leaves, straw, wood chips? Or is the entire pile just pumpkin
goo?
My compost piles are dead cold and won't wake up again until the outdoor
temp reaches 50 and I turn them. My closest pile is some 200' from my
dryer vent. How long is your 3" pipe? I can't imagine composting 10,000
lbs of pumpkin right outside your back door. This is great! Wow
composting in the winter! Wonderful!
If you're blowing fresh air into the pile, you could cover the pile with
plastic to hold in more heat. Of course you must make a vent, but no big
deal with your system, usually coverning a pile with plastic means you
smother the plie. Winter compost! Great going Dan!
